Case Study: UIA achieves fewer poor risks and improved customer service with Ordnance Survey mapping data

A Ordnance Survey Case Study

UIA - Customer Case Study

UIA, a mutual insurer serving trade unions and not‑for‑profit organisations, faced the challenge of finding competitive advantages as a relatively small insurer by reducing poor risks and improving customer service. To get more precise risk insight they implemented Ordnance Survey data—specifically AddressBase and OS OpenData—within a new GIS workflow (visualised in Risk Insight by Europa Technologies) so they could locate individual buildings and assess flood and storm risk more accurately.

Using Ordnance Survey mapping and address data, UIA can match exact building coordinates to other datasets, visualise flood extents and decline high‑risk properties before they slip through underwriting. Ordnance Survey’s data has already helped UIA make measurable improvements: quicker underwriting referrals, fewer poor risks accepted, more granular pricing and early cost savings, with plans to roll the solution out to claims.
