A Ordnance Survey Case Study

The Coal Authority - Customer Case Study

The Coal Authority faced costly, time-consuming operations caused by isolated legacy systems and manual processes that limited delivery of high-quality safety advice and mapping-based reports. To modernise its national coal‑mining data and make it widely accessible, TCA engaged SciSys to implement an enterprise information service and used Ordnance Survey data services — including OS OnDemand — for the most accurate base mapping.

SciSys delivered the Inferis platform: a central, spatially‑enabled database with reusable GIS services and embedded Ordnance Survey mapping (OS OnDemand) across business workflows. The integrated solution gives The Coal Authority a single source of up‑to‑date data, a public property-search facility, lower data and infrastructure costs, faster regulatory response, an eight‑year future‑proofed database, and improved prioritisation of site visits to reduce public safety risk — all enabled by Ordnance Survey’s mapping services.
