The Coal Authority (TCA) needed a reliable, cost-effective online consumer portal with accurate, up-to-date mapping so customers could clearly request and receive land stability reports without overwhelming contact-centre resources. TCA partnered with Ordnance Survey and adopted its OS OnDemand web map service (WMS) to provide detailed mapping down to individual building level for the new web interface.
Ordnance Survey’s OS OnDemand lets TCA customers draw exact boundaries online and receive completed reports in about 2 hours, 24/7, reducing turnaround time and contact-centre workload. Using Ordnance Survey saved TCA roughly £100,000 in upfront infrastructure costs, an estimated £20,000 a year in ongoing savings, and improved transparency, efficiency and the overall customer experience.
