The Borough of Poole - Customer Case Study

Borough of Poole Council needed a better way to know when and where streetlights failed, simplify resident reporting and improve locational accuracy so limited engineering resources could be allocated efficiently. Ordnance Survey supported the project by supplying OS MasterMap® Topography Layer data to underpin a new online reporting approach that would make it easier for residents to pinpoint problems.

MapThat’s 'Report It' platform was installed using Ordnance Survey data, letting residents mark incidents on a map and routing precise reports to engineers. As a result, over 50% of fault reports are now submitted online (a 20% rise in online engagement), the council saves around £5,000 a year in call costs and staff time, and issues are located and fixed faster with fewer repeat enquiries — outcomes enabled by Ordnance Survey’s mapping.
