A Ordnance Survey Case Study

Thames Valley Housing - Customer Case Study

Thames Valley Housing faced high grounds maintenance costs and limited visibility over the exact land boundaries and surface types it was responsible for across 14,000 homes in South East England. This made it difficult to price services accurately, challenge quotes, or prove value for money. Ordnance Survey supported the housing provider with OS MasterMap Topography Layer, used within Cadcorp’s Spatial Information System (SIS), to improve its mapping and asset information.

Using Ordnance Survey data, Thames Valley Housing built its own ground maintenance map layers and automated estimates for land extent and cover type, while also overlaying title plans to define responsibilities more clearly. The result was around £200,000 in annual savings on grounds maintenance, equating to £2 million over a 10-year contract, while maintaining service quality and improving pricing transparency, planning, and customer service.
