A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Surrey County Council, responsible for managing 1,800 grit bins, needed a time-efficient, cost-conscious way to track bin usage and condition, prioritise siting, and meet public expectations during hazardous winter conditions. KaarbonTech, working with Ordnance Survey data (including the OS MasterMap Topography Layer and OS StreetView), was engaged to provide a digital asset-management solution using Android/iOS smart devices and GIS referencing.
KaarbonTech delivered a mobile GIS system that overlays OS MasterMap/aerial imagery, captures voice, photo and video inspections with GPS accuracy, and shares inspection details instantly. The solution reduced staff time, fuel use and carbon emissions, enabled a full asset history to be downloaded in 30 seconds, improved resident service and produced a measurable saving of £50,000 between August and December 2013, with ongoing savings expected.
