A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) needed a corporate GIS to make geographic data widely available to staff and the public after an initial digitisation project showed strong value. Working with vendor GGP Systems and using Ordnance Survey data, the council sought a “capture once and share with all” approach and a way to publish maps and former land‑use information without buying expensive additional licences.
The Property Information team, supported by GGP Systems, built a corporate GIS with 347 layers and deployed GGP’s eGGP online application to publish data to staff and citizens. The solution avoided £1,500 in licence/consultancy costs, delivered ongoing savings of £1,260 per year, supports 194 internal users, and recorded 1,372 public website hits between August 2009 and January 2010 — demonstrating clear efficiency and service‑delivery gains from GGP Systems’ implementation.
