Scottish Road Works Register - Customer Case Study

Scottish Road Works Register (SRWR) needed a major upgrade to improve coordination of roadworks across Scotland, meet new legislative requirements, and replace an increasingly limited legacy register. With support from Ordnance Survey and OS MasterMap, the SRWR was transformed into a centralised, GIS-enabled national system used by 33 roads authorities, 34 utilities, and nearly 1,200 users.

Ordnance Survey implemented a solution built around OS MasterMap topography and raster data, with integrated mapping, spatial conflict checking, daily live works layers, and automated monitoring. The result was better coordination, clearer site identification, improved public access to current and planned works, and reduced administrative burden; the system now processes about 100,000 works and 12,000 notice transactions each week, with around 3,000 live works visible at any time.
