Scottish Environment Protection Agency - Customer Case Study

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) needed accurate, user-friendly backdrop maps for numerous desktop and field teams working in enforcement, hydrology, atmospheric science and GIS analysis. SEPA’s challenge was to move away from the familiar OS 1:10 000 scale raster base without losing detail or cartographic flexibility, and vendor OS’s OS VectorMap Local offered a customizable vector alternative.

OS implemented OS VectorMap Local across SEPA—migrating data and symbology and delivering vector, raster and WMS outputs—providing quarterly-updated, high-detail mapping (buildings, roads, rail, watercourses and boundaries) and full styling control. The adoption of OS VectorMap Local across SEPA’s internal applications has improved backdrop clarity, enabled tailored cartography for different teams, and opened up new location-analytics and third-party data-integration opportunities.
