A Ordnance Survey Case Study
The Scottish Boundary Commissions Secretariat, which supports the Boundary Commission for Scotland and the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland, needed a flexible, easy-to-use way to run extensive public consultations on draft parliamentary and ward boundary proposals and to boost public confidence in the review process. Ordnance Survey provided digital mapping under the One Scotland Mapping Agreement (OSMA), including products such as Boundary‑Line and OS MasterMap, to underpin the online consultation service.
Ordnance Survey supplied up-to-date raster and OS MasterMap data and enabled a cloud-hosted interactive consultation portal with postcode search, pan/zoom, comment submission and reusable map embeds. The Ordnance Survey-powered solution streamlined the consultation process, supported the Government’s Digital by Default agenda and delivered measurable savings (around £10,000 avoided web-server costs and up to £12,000 saved on printing), while improving transparency, public engagement and the quality and analysability of responses.
