A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Salford City Council faced the challenge of effectively managing and sharing detailed CCTV information—knowing where cameras are, who owns them and what they can see—to support police and local authorities in faster, smarter investigations. OS (Ordnance Survey) provided the spatial intelligence and core datasets (eg. 1:10 000 Scale Raster, Boundary-Line, OS MasterMap layers) which, together with Cadcorp’s CCTV Mapping System, addressed the need for an authoritative, shareable view of camera assets.
By combining OS data with Cadcorp’s web-based CCTV Mapping System, Salford implemented a searchable interface covering an initial 260 council cameras plus 300 private units (more than doubling coverage) with over 178 users. The OS-enabled solution sped up investigations, improved information sharing across agencies, reduced operational costs and response times, and helped optimise CCTV planning and investment—significantly improving crime detection and prevention.
