A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Powys County Council needed to improve efficiency across highways, waste collection and winter gritting while facing funding cuts, and it turned to Ordnance Survey data to help build a single highways dataset. Using OS MasterMap® Topography Layer and Integrated Transport Network™ (ITN) Layer, the council also worked with GIS and routing tools to better understand its road network and assets.
Ordnance Survey helped Powys County Council calculate carriageway widths across the county, enabling better vehicle sizing and route planning. The solution is forecast to deliver an extra 10–15% savings for routing services, improve highways asset valuation and reporting, and give residents better online access to service information such as bin collection days.
