North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service - Customer Case Study

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS), the largest county fire and rescue service in England, faced an aging command system, a large address database that needed better management and quality assurance, and difficulty pinpointing non-addressable locations. To address these challenges they migrated to AddressBase Premium from Ordnance Survey, using it as the corporate gazetteer alongside a new Command and Control platform.

Ordnance Survey’s AddressBase Premium was integrated with Capita software and ESRI’s ArcGIS to deliver new search scripts, a single Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) anchor and Bluelight Gazetteer loading, enabling operators to locate incidents more accurately. The Ordnance Survey solution—backed by over 39 million address entries and regular OS updates—has improved resource assignment efficiency, reduced data maintenance time, and increased the service’s ability to get the closest resources to incidents, potentially saving more lives.
