A Ordnance Survey Case Study
North West Fire Control (NWFC) needed a better way to mobilize fire crews across a large North West area, from central Manchester to remote moorland, while ensuring the nearest available resources were sent to incidents rather than simply the nearest fire station. Working with Ordnance Survey, NWFC used AddressBase Premium and other OS mapping products as part of its emergency call-handling and resource-dispatch setup.
Ordnance Survey provided key datasets including AddressBase Premium, OS MasterMap Topography Layer and OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network, helping NWFC map emergency calls, pinpoint callers, and identify the quickest response units. The result was faster and more efficient incident response, with better cross-border mobilizing, improved visibility across four counties and neighboring fire services, and significant time, staffing and resource savings.
