North East Ambulance Service NHS Trust - Customer Case Study

The North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides A&E and non‑urgent patient transport across 3,200 square miles to more than 2.6 million people and responds to around 360,000 emergency calls a year, many requiring sub‑eight‑minute responses. To improve location accuracy for both emergency incidents and its new 111 non‑emergency telephone service, the Trust sought up‑to‑date authoritative mapping and turned to Ordnance Survey, adopting products including OS MasterMap and AddressBase Premium via the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA).

By joining the PSMA and integrating Ordnance Survey datasets (OS MasterMap Topography, Integrated Transport Network and AddressBase Premium) into its Cleric command-and-control and CAD systems, call handlers gain precise, current addressing and optimal routing for ambulances. The Ordnance Survey solution delivered tangible impact: about £90,000 saved in licence fees, improved incident location and routing for emergency and 111 calls, and faster resolution of ambiguous or historical addresses—supporting quicker, more reliable responses.
