A Ordnance Survey Case Study

NHS Bromley - Customer Case Study

NHS Bromley faced uncertainty about the future provision of health services in the Orpington area and needed a clear, evidence‑based assessment of local population health needs to inform plans for hospital and community services. To support this work the public health intelligence team used Ordnance Survey digital mapping products (including Code‑Point, OS Street View, Boundary‑Line and scale rasters) to visualise complex admissions and demographic data rather than relying on large spreadsheets.

Ordnance Survey maps were used to map hospital admissions by postcode and LSOA, divide the borough into three zones, and overlay age, ethnicity and deprivation indicators. This allowed NHS Bromley to see at a glance where emergency admissions and specific service needs (chronic heart disease, diabetes, cancer) were concentrated and to target interventions such as teenage pregnancy services to the one zone with highest need. By using Ordnance Survey data under the PSMA the team produced accurate, actionable recommendations, improved joint working and more efficient planning of health services across Bromley.
