A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Milton Keynes Council was managing rapid city growth — celebrating 50 years while seeing a population and development boom (2004–2014 growth more than twice the national average) — and needed current, accurate mapping so new homes, businesses and infrastructure receive council services without delay. To solve this, the Council worked with Ordnance Survey, using OS MasterMap (including the Topography and Integrated Transport layers) under the Public Sector Mapping Agreement.
Ordnance Survey delivered OS MasterMap, updated every six weeks, and supported data sharing via MK:Smart and the “Presumption to Publish” for the MK Data Hub. This enabled planning applications to be considered in the correct geographic context, faster adoption of new highways and winter-maintenance routes, updated emergency and school-transport plans, more accurate customer-service reporting, and quicker capture of new assets — accelerating service provision and supporting sustainable growth across Milton Keynes.
