A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Luton Primary Care Trust faced unexpectedly low childhood immunisation rates after PCT-level reporting revealed its performance lagged behind county and national averages. The challenge was compounded by a diverse, transient population and inconsistent recording processes. Ordnance Survey supported the project, supplying geographic data products (Boundary-Line and OS Street View) and mapping services to help pinpoint problem areas.
Ordnance Survey helped Luton PCT clean and analyse immunisation records, create a clearer reporting protocol and overlay demographic and service-location data to map MMR defaulters and low-uptake wards. As a result, primary immunisation rose from 86% to 98% in three months (99% after six months) and MMR rose from 82% to 91% in three months (92% after six months), exceeding the 95% national target and enabling targeted outreach and sustained improvements.
