Lincolnshire County Council - Customer Case Study

Lincolnshire County Council needed to provide convenient, affordable public transport across a large, sparsely populated county and to do so under severe budget pressure. Working with vendor Ordnance Survey (using OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network™ data and other OS mapping products) — alongside Mobisoft’s Mobirouter scheduling software — the council developed CallConnect, an on‑demand, pre‑booked rural bus service with options for home pick‑ups and online/phone booking.

Ordnance Survey’s mapping data integrated with real‑time vehicle tracking and Mobirouter’s dynamic scheduling allowed CallConnect to run far more efficiently: a £1,000,000 reduction in supported bus service costs (2011), 27 routes covering over 90% of Lincolnshire, 250,000 passengers and 310,000 bookings in 2011, 23.7% passenger growth that year (52% since 2009) and 94% satisfaction among survey respondents. Ordnance Survey’s products helped minimize dead mileage, improve resource use and support 24/7 online booking.
