A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Isle of Wight NHS Trust needed to make its ambulance service more efficient while serving a seasonal population surge, a large retired community and a rural geography that made locating patients difficult. The Trust’s out-of-date gazetteer and basic Microsoft mapping struggled to identify new housing and non-postal addresses, so the organisation adopted mapping and addressing data from Ordnance Survey—including OS Places API and OS OnDemand Web Map Tile Service (with AddressBase® Premium and OS MasterMap®).
Ordnance Survey supplied hosted web APIs integrated into the Trust’s Valentiatech dispatch system so control-room staff can geosearch and pinpoint patient coordinates, verify address-linked warnings and find non‑postal locations. The result is faster, more accurate dispatching—identifying more patient locations, reducing manual address management and staff typing time, supporting the Trust’s eight-minute response target, and delivering ongoing 24/7 support from Ordnance Survey.
