A Ordnance Survey Case Study
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) needed up-to-date, consistent mapping to avoid delays in investigations—overcoming inconsistent and out-of-date map extracts, quickly finding locations, planning house-to-house enquiries, gaining a single view of all relevant locations, and presenting geographic information clearly. To address this the IPCC used Ordnance Survey’s OS OnDemand service under the Public Sector Mapping Agreement to access authoritative mapping data on demand.
Ordnance Survey’s OS OnDemand provided web access to current raster maps at the right scales (1:10,000–1:250,000), removing reliance on force-supplied extracts and enabling rapid map manipulation and professional presentation. As a result investigations run faster and more efficiently: less time spent pinpointing incidents, a clearer single geographic view, more effective planning of enquiries, and improved reports for coroners and courts—saving time and money in resource planning and report production.
