A Ordnance Survey Case Study
Avantia Group’s HomeProtect brand needed to price home insurance—especially flood risk—more accurately after the end of the Statement of Principles, but lacked reliable property-level data. To widen coverage and offer sustainable prices across the market, Avantia turned to Ordnance Survey and its datasets, notably AddressBase Premium and the OS MasterMap Topography Layer, to improve location and property-level risk information.
Ordnance Survey’s AddressBase (combined with Airbus/JBA flood modelling and Terrasure visualisation) was integrated into Avantia’s “Neptune” flood-rating algorithm using UPRNs to assign precise flood risk per property. The result: Avantia could lower prices on 80% of new quotes and price the remaining 20% more accurately, and among 40,000+ new policies the winter flood claims frequency was just 1/20th of that on their existing book—demonstrating a clear, measurable impact from Ordnance Survey’s data.
