Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust - Customer Case Study

The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, one of the country’s largest healthcare organisations serving over a million patients across the Midlands, needed accurate geographic information to plan services and promote a newly expanded, state-of-the-art LabMed laboratory to local GPs. Ordnance Survey digital mapping data (via the Public Sector Mapping Agreement and products such as OS MasterMap, OS VectorMap Local and Code-Point) provided the up‑to‑date spatial data required to define the trust’s complex catchment areas.

Using Ordnance Survey data the trust’s planning team mapped 20‑minute drive‑time catchments around its three acute centres, identified GP surgeries not referring to LabMed and targeted promotion accordingly. The Ordnance Survey-enabled analysis improved service planning and resource use, increased GP referrals to LabMed, ensured the new laboratory’s capacity is better utilised, and delivered quicker, more efficient results for patients.
