Hampshire County Council - Customer Case Study

Hampshire County Council needed to give residents and visitors easy, accurate access to thousands of miles of public rights of way across its countryside to support recreation, health and well‑being. Working with Ordnance Survey, the council aimed to make that mapping available to browse and download, using datasets such as OS Street View and the 1:10 000 Scale Raster from Ordnance Survey.

Ordnance Survey supported the authority through the PSMA exemption process to achieve open‑data status for rights‑of‑way data derived from OS products, allowing the public to download routes and view improved online maps (the council used Esri (UK) LocalView Fusion for delivery). The change drove around 1,500 page hits in the first week, delivered a significantly improved citizen service, helped meet local health and access targets, and promoted wider use of Ordnance Survey’s PSMA exemption approach.
