Gwynedd Council - Customer Case Study

Gwynedd Council needed a simple, customisable, uncluttered base map to underpin public-facing web maps and internal systems (including the CRM) so staff and residents could find and manage services easily. To meet this challenge the council used products from Ordnance Survey — notably OS VectorMap Local and OS VectorMap District, supplemented by OS Street View and a 1:250 000 Scale Colour Raster — to create an in-house, corporate‑style mapping backdrop.

Ordnance Survey’s vector products were overlaid with Gwynedd Council’s own data to produce a seven‑level, uncluttered web mapping application integrated across the council and within the CRM. The solution delivered faster, easier-to-use mapping with smooth scale transitions, reduced storage through image compression, improved mobile streaming, and clearer service location tools (used for tasks from classifying home‑care packages to waste collection); overall Ordnance Survey enabled a cost‑effective base map that improved access to local services for staff and residents.
