East Sussex County Council - Customer Case Study

East Sussex County Council needed a simple, accurate 24/7 way for residents to report faults (broken streetlights, abandoned cars, fly-tipping, etc.) without having to know which authority was responsible. To solve this, the council worked with Ordnance Survey and used the OS MasterMap Topography Layer to build a map-based online reporting system.

Ordnance Survey’s mapping underpins a click-to-report interface with problem drop-downs and postcode/street search that automatically routes issues to the appropriate council or the Highways Agency. The service has handled nearly 19,000 reports, delivered estimated net savings of £60,000 by moving reporting online, improved public engagement and tracking, and provided a one‑stop, always-available fault-reporting channel.
