A Ordnance Survey Case Study
The British Geological Survey (BGS) needed a more efficient way to deliver site-specific geological information in response to thousands of enquiries each year, many of which were location-specific. To reduce the cost and time spent managing addressing software and data updates, BGS adopted Ordnance Survey’s (OS) addressing services, notably the OS Places API, to streamline addressing within its Geo Reports service.
BGS implemented an automated Geo Reports service that uses Ordnance Survey data (including the OS Places API, AddressBase Plus/Premium, OS Street View® and VectorMap®) to deliver site-specific geological assessment reports. Ordnance Survey’s API provides real-time access to over 39 million addresses at a fraction of the previous system cost, eliminated the overhead of managing address data, and produced faster, more reliable reports—saving time and reducing operational costs.
