Bristol City Council - Customer Case Study

Avon IM&T Consortium was asked by NHS Bristol and Bristol City Council to improve planning of drug and alcohol treatment services in Bristol by mapping where the more than 5,000 people using services live and which centres they attend. Avon IM&T used its HealthGIS Maps tool together with geographic data from Ordnance Survey—leveraging PSMA datasets such as OS MasterMap and OS Street View—to analyse accessibility and walking times to needle-exchange and treatment locations.

Using Ordnance Survey data, Avon IM&T Consortium plotted treatment centres, patient residences and hospital alcohol-admission statistics to calculate service accessibility and reveal geographic gaps. The Ordnance Survey-backed solution produced clearer, visual evidence for decision-makers, enabled more accurate commissioning, improved partnership working between the PCT and council, and delivered better value for money while supporting the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
