Bolton Council - Customer Case Study

Bolton Council faced rising waste disposal costs and the challenge of making collection rounds more efficient while continuing to serve 123,000 residential properties. They worked with Ordnance Survey (OS), using OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network, OS Street View and OS MasterMap Topography Layer alongside routing software and council datasets to redesign rounds and enable accurate scenario planning.

Ordnance Survey’s mapping data was integrated into Webaspx routing and the Batec/Bartec in‑cab system to provide live vehicle tracking, monitor missed put‑outs, estimate mileages and optimise fuel usage. The OS-enabled solution delivered estimated savings of £400k per year, removed four vehicles in the first year, improved complaint handling and allowed accurate planning for new developments.
