Aberystwyth Town Council - Customer Case Study

Aberystwyth Town Council needed to create a second allotments site to serve a town of around 12,000 residents and faced challenges accurately surveying scrubland, planning plot layouts and fencing, and locating underground utilities. To address this they used Ordnance Survey digital mapping together with Pear Technology GIS software and Ordnance Survey products such as the 1:10 000 Scale Raster and OS MasterMap Topography Layer.

Ordnance Survey’s mapping and the Pear Technology solution let the council measure perimeters precisely, fit ten uniform plots plus features like beehives, and share digital data with utility companies to locate drains and cables to within a few centimetres. The council reports huge time savings (hundreds of hours), faster, more accurate procurement and budgeting for fencing and works, professional consultation materials, and a completed online planning submission.
