Roost, a technology company behind the first Internet-connected smart 9V battery for smoke alarms, needed an affordable but capable PCB design environment to fit advanced electronics into an extremely small form factor. Using OrCAD, Roost sought a better alternative to freeware tools that lacked sufficient DRC capabilities, had net limits, and could not reliably produce manufacturable output.

OrCAD provided Roost with an integrated suite for schematic capture, PCB layout, library management, revision control, documentation, and PLM integration. The solution helped Roost create BOM components once and reuse them across Capture CIS, PCB Editor, and Arena PLM, reduced duplicate engineering work and documentation errors, and enabled ECAD/MCAD collaboration for faster, more accurate layout and fit checks.
