OrCAD and PSpice Solutions Put Electric Bike Project on Road to Success

Electric Superbike Twente, a student team from the University of Twente, faced the significant challenge of designing a safe, competition-winning electric superbike in only nine months. They needed to develop a complex, automotive-compliant electrical system, including a custom 100kW motor control unit, while ensuring first-time design accuracy to avoid costly prototyping delays and manage risks from high voltage and electromagnetic interference.

Using OrCAD's Capture and PSpice solutions, the team implemented a complete design and analysis workflow. The tools enabled virtual prototyping, which allowed them to identify and solve problems like sensor noise filtration and overvoltage protection early in the design phase. This first-time-right approach from OrCAD saved considerable debugging time and cost, resulting in a reliable, high-performance bike that won the European MotoE championship.
