Eastern Pacific Shipping reduces close encounters 48% with Orca AI

Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), one of the world's largest ship managers, faced the challenge of managing high navigational risk and cognitive load on its bridge teams. Reduced visibility, long watches, and non-AIS targets like small fishing boats in busy sea lanes such as the Singapore Strait created sustained pressure. To address this, EPS partnered with Orca AI to deploy its AI-powered situational awareness platform as a digital watchkeeper.

The Orca AI solution provided real-time detection of all vessel types, including non-AIS targets, using thermal and day cameras to improve awareness in all conditions. This gave bridge teams more time to act, leading to a 48% reduction in close encounters and a 10% increase in average passing distances. Based on these results and overwhelmingly positive crew feedback, EPS decided to scale the Orca AI platform across an additional 30+ vessels.
