Clayton Hotel, Edinburgh wins planning approval for 256-bedroom hotel with Orbit Communications

Orbit Communications was appointed by Clayton Hotel, Edinburgh to support planning approval for the sensitive redevelopment of a vacant city centre building into a new 256-bedroom hotel. The challenge was to gain stakeholder and community support for the landmark project in a prominent location, bringing the long-vacant site back into productive use while supporting the local visitor economy.

Orbit Communications developed a targeted stakeholder engagement and communications strategy, which included a dedicated consultation website, a public consultation event, and proactive outreach to local councillors and community representatives. This transparent approach successfully generated only a small number of objections and resulted in no formal objections from key consultees. As a result, the planning application was approved under delegated powers, streamlining the decision-making process and avoiding a lengthy committee referral.
