SkyWave Mobile Communications was tasked with maintaining continuous real-time security, safety and asset tracking during the Rhino Charge off‑road rally across roughly 100 sq km of rocky, dusty African bush in intense 40°C heat. The challenge was to record GPS positions every two seconds and reliably transmit those positions every five minutes for a 10‑hour period; ORBCOMM’s IsatData Pro terminals and network were used to address this requirement.

ORBCOMM deployed rugged IsatData Pro satellite‑cellular terminals (using the terminal DataLogger to capture frequent GPS fixes) to log and batch-send position data, delivering uninterrupted transmissions throughout the full 10‑hour test. The result was predictable, consistent delivery of all GPS points at the scheduled intervals across the harsh terrain, demonstrating ORBCOMM’s IsatData Pro dependability and suitability for safety, tracking and fleet management in extreme environments.
