Balticon integrates ORBCOMM IoT telematics into reefer container operations

Balticon S.A, a Polish container services provider with a significant refrigerated-container business, sought better asset visibility, control and customer service for its domestic reefer rental operations. In 2013 the company tested ORBCOMM’s ReeferConnect M2M telematics (GPS/GSM devices and cloud monitoring) to remotely track location and operating status, enable 2‑way temperature control and diagnostics, and meet demanding use cases such as off‑grid NATO deployments and precise cold‑treatment cycles for a tobacco client.

ORBCOMM’s solution gave Balticon real‑time monitoring, automated alarms and remote control, allowing faster, proactive technician dispatch and continuous oversight from the office or mobile devices. The measurable impact includes 120 of Balticon’s 250 domestic rental reefers now fitted with ORBCOMM telematics, successful use of 44 connected units in an off‑grid NATO exercise, ongoing support for 32 tobacco‑treatment containers, and plans to expand as new units are acquired.
