Kuchera supports remote mining site sustainability and productivity with ORBCOMM IoT technology

Kuchera, a Berlin-based mining technology company, faced unreliable or non-existent connectivity at remote mining sites that caused multi-hour data blackouts and impeded monitoring, collaboration and equipment utilization. To power its teamUP performance-management platform and ensure persistent data delivery, Kuchera partnered with ORBCOMM for dual‑mode satellite/cellular IoT connectivity and programmable terminals.

ORBCOMM provided rugged, programmable dual‑mode satellite/cellular terminals, development kits and open APIs for fast integration with teamUP, with installations taking under 20 minutes and automatic switching to control airtime costs. The ORBCOMM-enabled solution produced measurable results: corrected distance reporting that boosted a contractor’s billed revenue by 40%, uptime increased from 8.5 to 10 hours per shift, productive-load accuracy rose from 80% to 95%, idling dropped from ~3 hours to <30 minutes, and average fuel use fell from 1,300L to <900L per truck — improving productivity, revenue and sustainability.
