A Oracle Case Study
YellowDog, a cloud‑native HPC workflow and scheduling specialist, helps customers run CPU‑ and GPU‑intensive jobs across multiple datacenters with strict deadlines and strong data‑privacy requirements. Its main challenge was minimizing deployment time and securing raw infrastructure performance so customers could run workloads on the fewest nodes (and lowest cost) while keeping commercially sensitive projects fully isolated.
YellowDog deployed on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure using bare‑metal servers, RDMA networking, and rapid provisioning to disable hyper‑threading, eliminate hypervisors, and mix instance shapes as needed. The result: significantly faster turnaround and higher throughput, big licensing and compute cost savings (for example, building an 8,000‑core environment in under 30 minutes so a customer could run four daily jobs while paying for just 10 hours instead of 24), consistent global pricing, and strong isolation—improving YellowDog’s competitiveness and enabling future expansion onto newer GPUs/CPUs and spot offerings.
