A Oracle Case Study
Yapi Kredi Bank, Turkey’s fourth‑largest private bank with more than 13 million customers and 835 branches, needed to stabilize its core banking and credit‑card systems, reduce total cost of ownership, and move off costly legacy mainframes. The bank’s goals included consolidating transactional workloads, upgrading databases for real‑time access across channels, improving service levels for credit‑card customers, and working with a single vendor that could deliver migration expertise and ongoing, business‑critical support.
Working with Oracle Advanced Customer Support, Yapi Kredi consolidated and migrated transaction processing, analytics, and databases onto Oracle engineered systems (SPARC T5‑4, SPARC M6‑32, Oracle Solaris, Oracle VM, Exadata and ZFS) and upgraded to Oracle Database 11g/12c and Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. The project cut host servers from 80 to 10, reduced analytics hardware footprint by 85%, lowered maintenance costs by one‑third and electricity/cooling by 75% (with ROI expected in under two years), reduced active DB processes by 99.95%, achieved 10x data compression, enabled fast backup/restore of 18 TB of card data, and delivered higher performance, shorter closing cycles and a highly available active/active production/disaster recovery configuration.
