A Oracle Case Study
Victoria University of Wellington, a New Zealand university serving over 22,000 students, faced cumbersome, poorly integrated legacy financial systems (including Cognos TM1) that made budgeting and planning slow, error-prone, and hard for occasional users to operate. The university needed to standardize and simplify business processes, improve visibility of financial data, and reduce reliance on specialized skills tied to aging interfaces.
VUW implemented Oracle Cloud EPM (alongside Oracle Cloud HCM and existing Oracle systems) to streamline planning, budgeting, and forecasting, with support from partner DXC Red Rock for training and change management. The new solution integrated data, made forecasts faster and more visible, reduced spreadsheet silos, increased staff confidence in numbers, and made it easier to adjust 12–18 month forecasts during disruptions like COVID-19—marking a key step in the university’s move to cloud business applications.
