Case Study: Wirecard Romania achieves IT consolidation, PCI DSS compliance, and major cost & performance gains with Oracle Database Appliance

A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Wirecard Romania Case Study

Wirecard Romania creates business synergies for merged entities with Oracle

Wirecard Romania was created in 2016 when Wirecard acquired three local payments firms (Provus, Romcard and Supercard), leaving the new entity with fragmented IT environments—legacy HP and IBM servers running mixed OSs—even though all used Oracle databases. The company needed to standardize infrastructure to create business synergies, ensure PCI DSS compliance and strong payment security, maintain business continuity with a secondary site for disaster recovery, and reduce operational costs.

Wirecard consolidated onto Oracle Database Appliance High Availability with Oracle Advanced Security and Active Data Guard, deployed a remote secondary appliance for fast disaster recovery, and used built‑in encryption and automated backups to meet PCI DSS and protect card data. The move delivered a 75% reduction in batch processing time, faster deployment and scaling, significant cost savings via engineered systems and capacity-on-demand licensing, and smoother operations supported by Logika and Oracle Premier Support.
