A Oracle Case Study
Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is one of the nation’s largest water and wastewater utilities, serving 1.8 million residents across nearly 1,000 square miles in Maryland. Faced with aging infrastructure, rising customer expectations for retail-like digital services, limited modernization funds, talent recruitment challenges, and a need to reduce IT complexity while improving sustainability, WSSC sought an IT transformation to become a real‑time utility.
WSSC deployed Oracle engineered systems (with support from Oracle and partner Mythics) to modernize its data center and deliver faster insight and services. The solution cut batch processing times by half and produced business reports 10x faster, reduced payroll processing to 30 minutes and financial queries from 12 minutes to 6 seconds, shrank power use by about 76% through rack consolidation, cut database provisioning from weeks to 15 minutes, enabled a first‑of‑its‑kind mobile customer app, and supported $81M+ in online collections—lowering TCO, simplifying IT management, and improving disaster recovery and sustainability.
