Vegas PBS Supports State Employment Initiative by Offering More Than 4,000 Online Training Courses to Public and Private Workforces

Vegas PBS, the public television station serving Southern Nevada, needed to expand its educational mission after the recession by training and retraining a multilingual workforce so displaced workers could reenter the job market. The organization required a customizable, user-friendly learning-management system that worked on mobile and desktop devices, integrated with e-commerce, complemented local college programs, and could serve as a model for other PBS stations.

Using Oracle Taleo Learn Cloud Service, Vegas PBS launched the Global Online Advanced Learning (GOAL) portal with more than 4,000 courses, including a customized seven-language food-handler program accessible on mobile devices. Launched in under five months, the platform trained more than 106,000 people in its first year, cut training costs by about $10 per person, supports about 10,000 new enrollments per month, improved certification accountability, reduced food-safety incidents, and became a replicable model for other stations.
