A Oracle Case Study
V2Com is a São Paulo–based provider of hardware, software and advanced-metering infrastructure (AMI) solutions for utilities that connects more than 1 million metering devices to help clients reduce losses, manage water and electricity more efficiently, and lower environmental impact. The company needed to speed development of new applications while preserving functionality and compatibility across a wide range of meters and grid devices, and to help utilities meet regulations and respond more quickly to supply failures.
V2Com implemented Oracle Java SE Embedded and Oracle Java ME Embedded alongside Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management and Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository to create a scalable IoT AMI platform and integrate meter data with customer systems. The solution automated remote meter reading over the public cellular network, made the AMI compatible with meters, transformers and circuit breakers, cut operational costs (about a 60% annual reduction by replacing field reads), accelerated access to consumption data by roughly 40 days, improved billing visibility and fraud detection, and enabled faster incident response and time-to-market.
