A Oracle Case Study
UT Grain Management (UTGM) is a Southern African risk‑management consultancy that supports grain-sector development by training farmers and managing long-term aid projects across South Africa and Mozambique. UTGM struggled with disparate, manual data collection (spreadsheets emailed or mailed), limited access to current and historical farmer and crop information, data errors, logistical constraints across large distances, and the need to better target financial and training interventions to improve project outcomes.
UTGM and partner APPSolve deployed a cloud-enabled Farmer Master Database using Oracle VM, Oracle Database and Oracle Application Express, delivering a web-based, offline-capable system in four months. The solution eliminated duplicate entries with rules-based forms, enabled custom reporting and targeted agronomic and financial advice, improved predictability for aid investments, reduced operational costs, and scaled to support an expanding farmer base (projecting 200,000 records), significantly improving decision-making and program impact across the region.
