University of Saskatchewan uses OCI to uncover how smoking impacts mental health

The University of Saskatchewan was researching how smoking cigarettes affects different mental disorders over a person’s lifetime, but the team was limited by insufficient computing power to analyze the 25TB UK Biobank dataset. Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) from Oracle helped overcome those constraints.

Oracle implemented OCI to move the large data set into the cloud for analysis, reducing a process that previously took two years on local on-premises computers to just one week. This dramatic improvement in upload and access speed significantly accelerated the research and contributed to the project’s success.
