University of Colorado centralizes identities using Oracle

The University of Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus are a leading public urban research university system serving more than 18,000 students across hundreds of programs. Their Office of Information Technology faced a fragmented “wild west” identity landscape—disparate provisioning, authentication and single‑sign‑on systems, multiple credentials per user, complex multi‑role faculty and visiting users, and strict HIPAA and compliance requirements that made secure, auditable access difficult to manage.

CU Denver implemented Oracle Identity and Oracle Identity Cloud Service with implementation partner Arisant to build a centralized, role‑driven identity platform shared across all four University of Colorado campuses. The solution enabled near real‑time provisioning, secure partner access to the clinical information data warehouse, and a consistent user experience—managing ~300,000 identities, cutting help‑desk calls by 90%, supporting 100 federation partners/integrations, and significantly reducing risk and compliance overhead.
