Université Laval moves to Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer with Oracle ZDM

Université Laval, the first French-language university in North America, needed to modernize its legacy on-premises Oracle PeopleSoft financial and HR systems while keeping data on-premises and minimizing disruption. Its existing Oracle Exadata hardware was aging, and the university wanted better performance, resiliency, cloud-like elasticity, and stronger security without overprovisioning resources for peak demand.

To solve this, Université Laval moved to Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer using Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM). Oracle completed the migration of Oracle RAC Databases 12.2 and 19c in five months, with performance improving by 2X to 8X versus on-premises Exadata. Oracle ZDM also encrypted more than 200 PDBs across 35 CDBs without downtime, while OCI Object Storage and Storage Gateway helped accelerate weekly 6 TB backups and reduce storage costs; the university also gained dynamic scaling, dedicated disaster recovery, and less database administration overall.
