Preview of the Universidad del Caribe Case Study

Universidad del Caribe - Republica Dominicana lowers costs by 70% using Oracle Cloud

Universidad del Caribe (Unicaribe) is a popular private university in the Dominican Republic with about 29,000 students and a unique one‑month course calendar where students pay US$50 per class. After hosting its higher‑education applications on another provider’s cloud and facing annual infrastructure costs of US$492,000, the university sought better price performance to sustain growth and its intensive in‑person and online course model.

Unicaribe migrated its education software to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (using Oracle Cloud Compute) in July 2019, reducing annual infrastructure costs to US$68,000—more than a 70% cut and roughly US$420,000 in savings. The move also halved IT maintenance staff from 63 to 27 and freed funds for technology improvements (new contact‑center and student‑progress tools) and expansion of academic offerings with 32 new degree options approved.
