United Bank, a full-service bank based in Addis Ababa with more than 1 million customers across 317 branches and growing digital channels, set out to become a top-five private bank in East Africa and a market leader in innovation. To achieve this it needed a modern, automated digital banking platform and chose to build on its long-standing Oracle relationship, leveraging its own skilled IT team to manage the implementation in-house.
United Bank upgraded to Oracle FLEXCUBE (live April 1, 2020) and is rolling out Oracle Banking Digital Experience to modernize online and mobile services. The modernization automated loan origination, streamlined branch workflows, and sped up processing across 317 branches, while new online capabilities—automated transfers, bill payments, mobile account opening and more—are improving customer convenience; the bank also plans future digital services such as chatbots, voice assistance, scan-to-pay and P2P payments.
